A national memorial is to be established in Canberra to honour, and pay tribute to workers who have lost their lives through work-related accidents, incidents or disease.
The National Workers’ Memorial invites design professionals and members of the public to participate in the Memorial design competition.
The Memorial is to:
- Serve as a reminder of the importance of workplace safety and the need to continue to work together as a nation to improve health and safety performance and prevent work-related accidents and disease.
- Honour and pay tribute to all of the working Australians who have lost their lives to work- related accidents, incidents and/or disease.
- Provide a place to reflect and remember the sacrifice of all such workers who have lost their lives.
- Recognise and celebrate the vital contribution and significant achievements of Australia’s workers to the building of this nation.
- Provide a focal point for the national commemoration of Workers’ Memorial Day.
Competition registrations close on 29 September 2011, and entries must be delivered by 3pm 6 October 2011.
