Man injured in abattoir accident

A MAN sustained serious hand injuries when it became caught in machinery at a Charleville abattoir.

The man’s hand became caught in a sprocket chain at Western Meat Exporters, on the Warrego Highway, at 7.45am.

Paramedics and firefighters responded to the incident while workers stopped the machine and were able to free the man’s hand before emergency services arrived.

The man was wearing gloves but his thumb was severely damaged.

He was taken to the Charleville Hospital.
